Antietam Review

Best review ever!:

”I have been wargaming for thirty years and can safely say this is my top wargame system. There is a place for miniatures, hex games etc, but If I have to pick one, this is it. Fairly simply to play, yet feels like the most realistic experience of being a General during a battle. I spent 20 years as an Army officer and this is the only game that felt more like a real wargame vs. fun wargame. Coupled with the new Brigade pieces and quality of the components, this is the ultimate scotch and cigar game for me. Hurry up and get the Bull Run brigade blocks made!”

Yes, the new Brigade series is out now!

  1. I have enjoyed Antietam immensely.
I just received the brigade blocks.
I can’t wait to give it a go!
Thank you Marshall for your superior service,
    And kindness.

  2. Lovely to see y’all updating again! Personally the brigade scale blocks seem quite appealing to look at, very reminiscent of the original kriegsspiel blocks.
Will there be anything new on the way out for your “winter campaign”?

    • Yes, we looked into it. It’s way too big to do at this scale. We can double the scale. I’m not even sure that is enough. We ran experiments on quadruple the scale but that doesn’t work. The blocks become too thick to match the terrain.

Even double scale is going to be really huge. Bigger than most people have tables for. Definitely a monster game.

It is a great battle though. It would be fantastic to fight out. I’m thinking it would need a different scale and system. More like an operational scale game. Where each 24 x 24 Pub Battles map is 1 small hex on the map.

We are working on such a system. Yes, that would be the scale to do it on.

      • Honestly I feel that maybe a full sized leipzig pub battles with the map covering the entire floor would be a whole lot of chaotic fun haha. By the way, what’s coming out after the brigade scale pub battle games are completed? Around when can we expect to see new games out?

      • You know what, I’ve been looking at the map more on this lately. I wonder if maybe it could fit. ??

We need to do some tests on this to see how it scales out exactly.

      • You know, I did some work on this today, laying out the map in different scales.

We were wanting to cover the bigger, surrounding areas. Like we did in Gettysburg. That would end up about the size of all our Waterloo maps put together. That would probably be best. We’d have to up that to 32,000:1 scale to make it fit on a table reasonably. That would make divisions 1″ long. It could work. Brigades would be like little 1/2″ KS blocks.

You know, if we cut out all the extraneous space and just do the battle, it could fit on something the size of Marengo. About 34 x 24. That’s not too bad. It would have a ton of blocks!
